I vetoed the grain fields for aesthetic and practical reasons - it'd look like balls, and I'd have to spend an inordinate amount of time maintaining them. Instead, there's a crate in the Mill that we add sacks of flour to on a fairly regular basis, up to a maximum. If we haven't been doing that recently, its because of the lack of a character running the mill, or because of a lack of interest in such.

I can start building something new on the burned-out plot as soon as we work out the specifics of construction costs.

The nightmares that swept the village in the previous month have continued, growing in frequency. The most recent round features not eight robed figures seated at the tables, but nine, with a tenth being added following the ritual being witnessed. The victims seen are varying between Sibyl Crow, Colin Hawk, and Arthur Stafford, according to which one the person experiencing the dream knew best.

Rumors and whispers that one of the robed creatures seen in the nightmare has been appearing around the village are spreading.

I built a mill. I think we're just going to fill a box in it with 1d100x5 sacks of flour every week or something and let you lot sort it out. Seems the best way to go about it that doesn't involve me doing a great deal of work and ruining the beautiful, perfectly-tall fields that are already in place.

#79 Re: Out Of Character Board » Feature Requests » 2013-06-03 09:34:16

I could potentially drop an individual spawner for every single tile of the wheat field, and set it up so that it replaces any of them that get used up. That's the only permanent solution I can think of that wouldn't look completely horrible (like a big open field with a bunch of randomly distributed crop patches, which would be the result of using just one spawner). Even that'd take me an entire night to accomplish, though, since each spawner would have to be set up manually.

#80 Re: Out Of Character Board » Feature Requests » 2013-06-03 03:35:42

The issue with the grain fields being fully functional is that they'd be extremely high-upkeep for me. I can't just area-delete the current fields without destroying the dirt base I put down under them, and even if I replace the current statics with pickable equivalents I'd have to routinely replace them since, once picked, they don't always regrow. This is why the existing fields in which I'd placed pickable crops are all completely bare now. Beyond this, I -really- like that you can feasibly hide in them right now. >_>

*A notice is attached to the Church Doors, bearing the seal of the Preceptor*

People of Blackwell,
Last evening, during a routine patrol of the village by agents of the Church, the citizens known as Sibyl Crow and Colin Hawk were found murdered beside the lamppost adjacent to the Sheriff's Office. The child, Sibyl, was dead when the Church arrived, having been stabbed with a long knife. Hawk was found alive, evidently hallucinating, and all attempts to wake him failed. He later suffered what appeared to be some form of heart failure, and his corpse soon reanimated and had to be destroyed.
At this time, it is not the opinion of the Church that this was a murder-suicide. The relevant details will be conveyed to the Sheriff and Militia Captain with all due haste, and the townsfolk are asked to report any strange or supernatural occurrences. If you believe you believe you are in danger, seek refuge in the Church.

                                                                                  Remain Calm,
                                                                                  Preceptor Erik

*A sketch of the knife is attached, easily recognizable as a less rusty version of that used by the Exemplar of the Legion in the villagers' mass nightmares.*

I like that explanation, and I'm not sure I can fix it without completely rebuilding the shop...and even then, it'll probably be broken. I've noticed that a lot of the houses have similar problems.

Sounds like an issue with RunUO, honestly. I've had it do similar things a few times, and it generally seems to be an issue of slight desynchronization between the server and your machine. Not really sure what can be done about it.

*The following message is written below in bold, blocky letters;*

The Church is prepared to offer a reward of 500 gold pieces for the capture - dead or alive - of the man pictured above, and any information leading to his arrest will be suitably rewarded as well. This man is guilty of severely injuring a Templar Acolyte and several others, and WILL answer for his actions.

The Church asks that the people of Blackwell pray for the swift recovery of Sister Serena.

I, for one, have always believed in piffle. Piffle is the word this country needs. Piffle for President 2016.

I'll sort that out tonight. Also, there are -four- beds. The two visible ones are actually the upper bunks. I'll remove the loose equipment that's lying around and move it into a crate in non-static form.

Also Star Trek. Don't bother with the original series. The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager are all good. Only watch Enterprise if you've already been conditioned against disappointment by years of playing UO. Wait. That's everyone here.

People could also change their steamIDs to something more recognizable.

#93 Re: General Chatter » Babble Thread! » 2013-05-20 22:24:47

If you don't absolutely hate Anime;
- Ga-Rei: Zero
- Requiem for the Phantom
- Last Exile
- Planet of the Beast King

I've also noticed that there're a lot of functions built into the Steam Group we've set up (The Midnight Watch) that could prove useful. All in all, I think Steam is the best bet here.

The only person to roll a 100 so far is Jarvis, and we used this to represent him having struck a small vein of gold during his prospecting in the nearby hills. There was gold in them-thar hills. You should therefore consider 500 to be a very small fortune - not enough to own the town, but enough to live comfortably despite the situation, at least for a while. Personally, I'm rubbish with numbers, so this isn't really something I feel I could make a reliable guess at. It bears noting, however, that there should ideally be about 250 gold (the precise middle of the rollable range) per character circulating in the economy right now.

Also, three stacks of gold ore that Jarvis is reluctant to try smelting before his skill increases.

Anyway, it was my intent to leave this matter entirely up to the players. I still intend to do so.

I was running Facebook, ICQ, and Steam all at once last night, and it was really impacting the performance of my machine. If we could pick a single method (I'm up for any of them), that would help immensely.
